I Will Hear What God The Lord Will Speak

(Note: CAPS are used throughout for adding emphasis, never meaning to yell.)

Psalm 85:8
"I will hear what God the Lord will speak,
for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints."

He will speak peace, that word is - shalom!
To His people - Us,
and to His saints - Us.

This psalm has a theme: Restoration.
We are praying for our nation for restoration, forgiveness of sin,
For God to turn and move with His mighty arm to bring salvation
to our nation, for revival, a great waking up!...

The burden expressed in this psalm matches our cry...
Verses 4-6:
"Restore us, O God of our salvation
And cause Your anger toward us to cease.
Will You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger to all generations?

Will You not revive us again,
That Your people may rejoice in You?
Show us Your mercy, Lord
And grant us Your salvation."

We have a Great God Who desires to be with us and to show us
Himself, His ways, His heart, His love, His paths...
If God is not going to complete what He began in us,
if He is not faithful to His Word,
Then - Who is He?
And why would He bring us into knowledge of His ways,
to hear our calling unto Him,
And then not move on our behalf to save us?

(I am speaking of us as His people, as belonging to Him,
and not as our nation, the U.S. because this doesn't start on the national level.
Instead this begins in the hearts of individuals...)

Verse 8...
"I will hear what God the Lord will speak,
For He will speak peace..."

We are in need of willingness to hear and
we are in need of a resolve within us
that God is on our side,
wanting us to come into His peace,
His shalom.

Shalom / Salom is His government order. It includes absences
of chaos of all kinds, including physical pain and disease,
including lack of any kind, such as monetary lack, lack of food
and includes every single need we have need of...
Salom is the governing of God, all inclusive blessings and provisions of God in full effect!
It is HIS peace, not the peace we generate as people.

But we need to HEAR Him speak His Shalom to us.

Remember - Genesis 1:3
"Then God said, "There is light" and there was light."

BOOM!

(Yes, there is no word "let" in this verse (as I've said in my previous
blogs...NIH not in Hebrew... And I shook out the verb "to be" to make this make sense.)

And - John 1:1
"In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
HE WAS in the beginning with God."

God's Word is Life, creative, regenerative, restorative,
Fully effectual and
Immensely powerful!
Nothing can stand in the way of God's Word!

Yes, Jesus is this Word.
John 1:3
"All things were made through Him, and
Without Him was nothing made that was made."

It is His very words spoken to us
that in actuality
CREATE whatever He speaks!
When we hear Him,
we are changed BY HIS SPEAKING,
BY His very SPOKEN WORDS.

"I will hear what God the Lord will speak
For He will speak peace..."

When God speaks "shalom" to you,
What happens?
Shalom is created in you,
around you,
for you,
in your everything!
It is exactly the same as when God spoke and said
"There is light".
Nothing can stand in the way of God's spoken Words!

It IS SIMPLY OF VITAL IMPORTANCE to HEAR God.

It is beyond important to be willing to hear God!!

Some of you hear Him and then don't listen...
Some want to hear and have yet to really hear Him...

For those of us who hear,
where would we be without Him?
For when we hear Him for ourselves,
His words transform us!
They change us deep within!
We are not the same!

Jesus has come to live within us - Emmanuel -
by the Holy Spirit.
How is it we do not hear Him?
He is right here, within us...
And if we say we do hear Him,
how is it we are not changed?

"I will hear what God the Lord will speak,
For He will speak peace (shalom)
To His people and to His saints;

*But let them not turn back to folly*."

The Hebrew phrase for turning back to folly means to act ignorant, using today's
vernacular. It means to act like you don't know.

Do you know to pray until you hear God?
Do you know His voice is available to you?
Do you know Jesus made a way for you to have access
to the very Throne-room of God your Father?
Do you know that the Spirit within you is supposed to cry out
to God?
"And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son
into your hearts
crying out -
Abba, Father!" (Galatians 4:6)
And if His Spirit is crying out in you,
Won't God answer Himself??

And do you know that Jesus, if He is invited to live within you
and to be your Lord,
WILL SPEAK to you?

Let me set your expectation -
Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice." (John 10:27)

Now His disciples walking with Him heard His words,
but did not understand everything He said.
So Jesus was not referring to just speaking about them.
Jesus' sheep were all those yet to be...

And the disciples - Jewish men who had been schooled in
the written word of God
asked Jesus to teach them
HOW to pray.
They understood Jesus was doing something that they were not taught before,
something they did not do.
After all, Jesus said He spoke what He heard His Father saying.
And whatever Jesus spoke, His words accomplished something.
Jesus said His words were "spirit and life" (John 6:63).
Jesus also prayed that we would be one with Him and our Father (John 15).

Are we then called to hear Him ourselves?
YES!
How can we endeavor to be anything at all unto God
and not be hearing God's voice?

Listen...
Psalm 85:9
"Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him..."

Fearing God, meaning to care enough to pay attention to Him.
To be in awe and in reverence of Him.

And the result?...
"Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him
*that glory may dwell in our land*."

Glory? Glory dwells in a land? Glory can dwell in a land?
God's glory that fills the whole earth can dwell somewhere?

We need some understanding to come greet us here because
we pray the prayer that
the disciples learned to pray...
And when they prayed as taught,
the disciples prayed the kingdom of God right into the world,
"Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done"!
We also pray this --
and then ---
we stand in the doorway of opportunity to know what this brings
into our lives,
but we never seem to really learn that the kingdom of God
is REALLY reality,
realer than what is all around us!
(Name anything!)
And the kingdom of God --
It IS a government,
Governed
By God.

To hear the written word of God is good, that is, to read and comprehend it,
but...
to study it enough to have an expectation of God is where I'm going...

David wasn't confident in God because he was just cool that way.
He was confident in God because he loved God's word...
In God's written Word are the testimonies and truths of Who God is.
And what He has said.
And what He will do.
And His ways...
And so David expected the God of the written Word
To DO
Exactly
As
He
Said
He
Would.

David had some experiences with God that God used to prove Himself
to David.
So have you and I, maybe just in small ways, but still...

Where is our expectation?
Do we want our nation healed?
Do we want God's blessing?
Sometimes I wonder. Sometimes I wonder if we don't just want to
be lazy and soak up the sun and hang out and be entertained.
When God is calling us.

Maybe we do want what He wants to give us, or maybe
we
haven't
yet
heard.

God is facing us.
He is for us and not against us.
He is our salvation.
He is our shepherd.
He is our provider.
He is facing us in Jesus, our Savior
who is present with us...
"And the government shall be upon His shoulder." (Isaiah 9:6)

Psalm 85:10
"Mercy and truth are met together;
Righteousness and peace (shalom) have kissed."

Mercy and truth... these are together in God's ways,
in His dealings with us,
because of His intention in His heart (at this point in the Old Testament)
to send our Messiah Who would shed His blood for us,
to be the stand-in for us,
to take our punishment for our sin...

Mercy, not just truth.
Truth is truth, constant, it is what God speaks and...
It is His.
And Jesus is The Truth.

Truth WITH Mercy...
We truthfully should have died for our sins...
The truth of the cross of Christ is that Jesus took our penalty for us.
This is God's mercy and His truth together.

Now look at Psalm 89:14b-15
"Mercy and truth go before Your face.
Blessed are the people that know the joyful sound!
They walk O Lord in the light of Thy countenance."

The sound?
What sound?
The joyful sound of His Mercy and Truth -
Jesus!
His Word, His face, His walk for us is in the light of His face!
And we HEAR...

If you are not hearing God, you need to!
If you are willing to hear Him, tell Him now!
Give Him your awe, your respect, the honor due Him
for all He has done for you!
Go into your prayer closet and expect Him to answer you,
"For He will speak His peace - His shalom - to His people and to His saints" -
This means - YOU!
